A Redeemer Steps Into the Gap — So Do We.
Presented by Jeffery D. Johnson

The Goel Project exists to combat a consistent issue among Memphis' most vulnerable. Thousands of youth and families face overwhelming challenges: poverty, instability, academic decline, and the absence of consistent support. We build church-anchored, neighborhood-based hubs — called Goel Centers — that walk with youth and families through mentorship, wellness initiatives, academic support, leadership development, and faith-based community care.
What Is A Goel?
A Goel (pronounced go-EL) is a biblical redeemer — someone who steps in to restore, protect, and stand in the gap for those who cannot defend or lift themselves.
In Scripture, the Goel was:
-
the restorer of what was lost,
-
the protector of the vulnerable,
-
the defender of family and community, and
-
the one who ensured that dignity, inheritance, and hope were not erased.
Boaz in the book of Ruth is the most well-known example — a man who restored Ruth’s future, secured her family’s dignity, and brought life back to what had been broken.
That is the heart behind The Goel Project.
